Geocaching – the modern scavenger hunt in the form of Team Event 2021 Wolfsburg
On 3 September 2021, Team Wolfsburg got together for a geocaching team event at the planetarium in Wolfsburg. This is a kind of GPS scavenger hunt with the aim of finding the respective hiding places, so-called caches. Introduced by a geocaching guide, teams of three were equipped with GPS devices and a list of coordinates for each of the 12 caches laid out by the guide. At each of the previously placed caches, the teams found a riddle that had to be solved and with whose solution words the coordinates of the finish point could be formed piece by piece.
The first uncertainties about how to use the navigation device quickly disappeared and all the teams got the hang of it. Shortly after kick-off, the first teams started entering coordinates into the GPS device according to the four-eyes principle and went straight on the hunt for the caches.
In order to be able to solve the riddles hidden in the respective caches, not only were the individual team members required to have knowledge of history, mathematics and general knowledge, but dexterity tasks were also part of the riddles and the treasure hunt. The modern scavenger hunt led the teams around the planetarium, along interesting, not always well-known sites in Wolfsburg.
After a good three hours of riddle-solving in the best weather, the group was complete again and was able to celebrate the winning team, which had correctly deciphered the solution coordinates first and had appeared there!
