Planting birches in Latvia
With birches to climate neutrality
We are always looking for forward-thinking solutions for our customers. Likewise, we also aim to act in a forward-thinking manner in our daily work – in this case, sustainability plays a particularly important role for brox, in addition to other aspects.
Over Christmas in 2020, all employees were able to enjoy a special surprise. Each Christmas present now included a certificate confirming that one birch tree for each employee has been planted. This campaign was very well received by our employees and thus paved the way for brox’s further development in the area of sustainability.
In order to live up to our ecological responsibility at corporate level, we decided to make the future of brox climate-neutral. In our search for cooperation partners, we chose “Not Hot Environmental Solutions GmbH”, because they act according to the “Verified Carbon Standard” and all projects are VERRA-certified. Through this, we could be sure that our investment would achieve the desired added value.
At the beginning of the project, our individual carbon footprint was calculated. This allowed us to determine how much CO2 needed to be sequestered to compensate. As a result, 1500 birches were planted on an area of one hectare in Latvia. In doing so, Not Hot selects soils that are mostly unsuitable for agriculture so as not to occupy important farmland. These areas are usually already overgrown with bushes and individual naturally regenerated trees. Before planting, the bushes are removed and the area itself is afforested. Reforestation is always carried out in accordance with sustainable forestry, which means that old trees, for example, remain on the site and are not felled.

We are happy to be part of this project and to support the creation of a valuable ecological CO2 reservoir. Over the next 40 years, the planted birch trees will bind around 500 tonnes of CO2. In addition, the newly emerging flora will initiate the renaturation of the areas and thereby enable the creation of a valuable ecosystem that will be home to the local wildlife for many years to come.
For the future of brox, the principle of sustainable action means maintaining the climate-neutral status and making an adequate ecological contribution. To this end, we aim to synchronise brox’s corporate growth with other such initiatives in the future. Keep an eye on our website to learn more about these initiatives.
